Emotions

This visualisation is combination of RussellÔÇÖs circumplex model and list of 48 emotions from the HUMAINE Emotion Annotation and Representation Language (EARL) extracted from database of all the text published in BLIC newspapper from 2000-2010.

In 1980, psychologist Russell used statistical techniques to produce a two-dimensional ÔÇťmapÔÇŁ of the mental space of emotions (right), starting only from surveyed ratings of similarities between emotions.

RussellÔÇÖs circumplex model has two ÔÇťaxesÔÇŁ that might be labeled as displeasure/pleasure (horizontal axis) and low/high arousal (vertical axis). For example, ÔÇťrelaxedÔÇŁ is on the `pleasure' side of the first axis, but has a low value on the second (arousal) axis whereas ``bored'' also has low arousal but is located on the displeasure portion of the first axis.

ABOUT OPENDATA.RS
Opendata.rs is an independent research project which collects, analyzes and visualizes data about Serbia during the last 20 years. By breaking down and imaging data we want to find patterns, trends, and correlations between the media, individuals and events. We would like to determine in which way has the media during the last 20 years shaped our reality, which emotions and values have been promoted, how centralized were the topics in the media in respect to locations in Serbia or the state in question. The work process of collecting data is itself, among other things, a study of the state and media transparency in terms of open access to data and statistics. The project also aims to make all collected information publicly available in a form suitable for further research and analysis.
