This visualisation is combination of RussellÔÇÖs circumplex model and list of 48 emotions from the HUMAINE Emotion Annotation and Representation Language (EARL) extracted from database of all the text published in BLIC newspapper from 2000-2010.
In 1980, psychologist Russell used statistical techniques to produce a two-dimensional ÔÇťmapÔÇŠof the mental space of emotions (right), starting only from surveyed ratings of similarities between emotions.
RussellÔÇÖs circumplex model has two ÔÇťaxesÔÇŠthat might be labeled as displeasure/pleasure (horizontal axis) and low/high arousal (vertical axis). For example, ÔÇťrelaxedÔÇŠis on the `pleasure' side of the first axis, but has a low value on the second (arousal) axis whereas ``bored'' also has low arousal but is located on the displeasure portion of the first axis.
